Minjeong Shin - SH0168Minjeong Shin is a pianist who forged a very personal inner musical world under the tutelage of deeply inspiring professors whilst studying at Sunhwa Arts School and Seoul National University in South Korea, New England Conservatory in the States, and The University of Minnesota (DMA). Now herself a respected teacher she continues to enjoy a busy recital schedule.

Whilst still playing much mixed repertoire, she has become a keen exponent of contemporary music presenting works by, among others, Morton Feldman, Toru Takemitsu, Charles Griffes, Joan Tower, Isang Yun, Ockmi Han, and Kyuil Yoon. She is especially interested in music that explores the boundary between the past and the future, seeking to find genuine beauty in the living music of our present time.

She first encountered Seabourne's work in 2011. Her mentor, Lydia Artymiw, encouraged her to perform some pieces from his Steps series for a doctoral recital. Immediately she felt empathy for the composer's voice, and his individual exploration of time and space. She believes deeply in this sound world, finding much personal resonance in the naturalness of its inspiration.

Her earlier experience behind her, she decided to make it her goal to present the entire first volume of Seabourne's monumental series, much of which had yet to be played in public. This was no small task given its complexity! Wishing to reflect the composer's wishes, she has worked closely with him for over a year to make this landmark recording; in doing so she has tried to mirror his vision.
